NeuroScience, What is it?

"Neuroscience, sometimes referred to as Neural Science, is the study of the human nervous system, how the nervous systems works, how it is structured and how it develops. Scientists who dedicate themselves to the study of neuroscience are known as Neurscientists. The large majority of neuroscientists focus their research on the brain and how it influences cognitive function and behavior.

According to the Society for Neuroscience (SfN) the three main objectives of neuroscience are to:

Understand the human brain and how it functions
Understand and describe how the central nervous system (CNS) develops, matures, and maintains itself.
Analyze and understand neurological and psychiatric disorders, and discover methods to prevent or cure them.

Advances in technology combined with an increased knowledge of how the brain and nervous system work have lead to many new breakthroughs in field of neuroscience. Individuals with trammatic brain and spinal cord injuries, psychological disorders, and brain diseases are now the beneficiaries of once unimaginable scientific advancements. What was once viewed purely as science ficition, is now a focus of mainstream scientific research and medical intervention.

Historically, neuroscience has been classified as a subdivision of biology. Today it is an interdisciplinary science aligned closely with other disciplines including psychology, medicine, linguistics, chemistry, philosophy, engineering, mathematics and even computer science. Some researcher still purport that neuroscience is the same as neurobiology but neuroscience encompasses much more." Psychology Career Center

NeuroScience and the Holy Bible

I believe that due to man's sin nature, all creation has been affected and therefore illness and disorders have entered into man. With this came disorders such as ADHD. I believe that in man's sin nature that ADHD is seen in the Scripture in the lives and lifestyles of some of it's people whom it portrays. one such life is that of Samson who was blessed with so much, much like those with ADHD and their special giftings, but Samson was prone to fall in certain impulsive actions, one of which ended up finally costing his life. He was impulsive, did things he knew were wrong, and then once again did the same thing he knew was wrong. He fell for strong drink and women whom he should have stayed away from and repeatably had bursts of uncontrolled anger. Though the hand of God was in his life and guided much, he was still accountable for his actions. Paul tell's us in Romans 7 that what he hated doing he found himself doing, but what he wanted to do, he did not do. This is classic ADHD, and yes, Paul was speaking of his sin nature, so i believe that sin has infected man neurologically and that the sin nature manifests itself in many ways, because none of us are perfect, rather we are fallen, awaiting restoration! There is however hope for those who live with neurological conditions such as ADHD, God knows your situation, and He specifically has a purpose for you regardless of what you may see as a hinderance. So in essence, I do not believe that modern science has refuted Scripture, but rather good science complements and confirms what God has revealed to us in his writings from as much as 3500 years ago. Good science confirms Scripture.

What is a Neuropastor?

As a neuro-pastor, I am one who researches the passages of the Bible involving heart and mind transformation, more into the mind of Christ-likeness in conjunction to recent revelation received from neuroscience advancements which actually testify to what Scripture has told us for over thousands of years and with recent advancement, science and the church is now able to better understand what some portions of Scripture tell us in reference to the heart and mind. The goal is transformation through the renewing of the mind. With those dealing with neurlogical and mental health disorders, they need someone to be able to understand that their condition is medical, affecting the brain, much like one who is diabetic, a medical disorder, disease. For someone with a neurological disorder such as ADHD or an illness such as bi-polar, it is not just about havig a better attitude or to stop maing impulsive decisions, the issue is medical and for these people to thrive spiritually they as well as their pastor and mentors need to also understand the nature of what they are dealing with, a medical condition. These people need an advocate and awareness needs to made to educate the clergy and the layman. Hence, the neuro-pastor who has an undestanding of both sinful man and the results of sin, a disorder in the brain
